Get VMware Ready with Elastic Server

The VMware Ready Virtual Appliance Program is a verification program designed to ensure the best possible user experience by promoting virtual appliances that are VMware verified and ready to run on virtual environments. Participation in the VMware Ready Virtual Appliance Program enables developers to offer virtual appliances that are optimized to run on VMware Infrastructure, create a better user experience, and clearly communicate that their virtual appliances are safe, tested, and ready to run in a production environment.

At this time, VMware offers a manual process for certifying your apps as VMware Ready. The good news is that Elastic Server can get you most of the way there. (As soon as VMware supports automated verification, we'll further simplify the process so you'll be able to one-click certify as you build your virtual servers in real-time. Pretty fancy, eh? Until then, please follow the instructions below.)

 Instructions:
  1. Visit Elastic Server

  2. Begin building your virtual server by exploring and selecting custom components from the various portals (e.g. LAMP, Ruby on Rails, Google App Engine, Django, etc.) or by selecting bundles from the Bundle Explorer, a searchable database of component bundles that community members have already assembled.

  3. Build a server and select VMware as your virtualization format. TIP: Give your server a clear name and description.

  4. Once your Elaster Server is built, go to your account and select this server. Look for "Sharing Options" section and select the "Share with someone" link to email the server to yourself. Now you have a private link to your new server to include in your VMware Ready application.

  5. Visit the VMware Ready site and review their instructions for validating and listing your virtual app.

  6. Fill out VMware's Virtual Appliance Validation Application

  7. Once your server is certified by VMware, return to Elastic Server and publish your shiny new VMware Ready server to the public directory.
